Many Native American Families are still feeling the deepest negative effects of the recession to an extent that doesn’t apply to the majority of us.

Native Americans aren’t dealing with a loss of discretionary spending money, they are dealing with empty pantry shelves and hungry children. Their stock portfolio hasn’t dipped, their refrigerators are empty.

Community leaders on the Reservations that Conscious Alliance serves have let us know that they are in dire need of food. In an area where 2 out of 3 people live below the poverty line, diabetes and tuberculosis are 300% above the national average, and life expectancy is barely 50 years of age, Conscious Alliance strives to provide relief.

This is an emergency situation. We plan to deliver truckloads of food to Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, Lame Deer Reservation in Montana, and Cochiti Pueblo Reservation in New Mexico. Thanks to generous donations from two of our active and committed sponsors (Whole Foods Market and Justin’s Nut Butter), coupled with a stockpile of food collected from a series of late-summer events, we already have enough healthy food to fill the trucks.

Our biggest hurdle is raising the necessary funds to pay to transport the food during this emergency trip.

Our drop-off point at each Reservation merely serves as a distribution hub to the rest of the districts on that Reservation. These districts are in extremely remote areas involving days of travel, tanks of gas, and local hired helpers and volunteers.

Our goal is to raise at least $8,000 by mid-September to cover the expenses of these deliveries and to give the necessary aid and outreach to the community leaders.

There is no better time than now to step up and help a family in need during these tough economic times. For secure online donations please CLICK HERE
