April Food Delivery to Pine Ridge
In April, the Conscious Alliance team, accompanied by Advisory Board member Mike Bank and his family, made a trip up to Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota in a fully loaded twenty-two foot Penske truck. We carried with us over 4000 pounds of food that was donated by our generous community at Food Drives at recent music events, along with a plethora of clothing and other donated items. In addition to these donations, we brought up two entire pallets of nutrition bars from Clif Bar that weighed over 1400 pounds, as well as four full pallets of lemonade and iced tea donated by Third Street Chai.
In 2005, we successfully built a much needed food storage and distribution facility on Pine Ridge Reservation, one of the poorest communities in the country. The unit is used to store and distribute emergency food supplies to hundreds of families at the end of each month when bills are due and emergency food is critical in making it to the next month.
We are so fortunate to have the support of generous companies like Clif Bar and Third Street Chai, as well as other longtime supporting companies such as Whole Foods Market and Justin’s Nut Butter. We are extremely grateful for the help of these amazing companies, our volunteers, all our supporters, and our partners on Pine Ridge – especially the Hand Family, who maintains and operates our Pine Ridge food pantry on a daily basis. Thanks to all these supporters, we are able to keep our emergency food panty on the reservation stocked year-round!
“There is no better feeling then experiencing, hands on, the good work the Conscious Alliance and it’s staff does at the Reservation- The gratitude of the Lakota people is heart felt and something that I will never forget.”
