_x000D_ This Lakota boy made his first hand drum last week during a Conscious Alliance Cancega Woksape (drum knowledge worksho­­­­­­­­­p) at the Allen Youth Center on Pine Ridge. He and his peer group started their drums by scrapping the fat off hides with traditional tools. Throughout the process, they learned their history and language from mentors. Making a hand-drum this way connects the native youth to their culture, and they can use the skill as a means to earn income. Follow us on facebook to see more of our youth empowerment programs.

She wants to remain anonymous but explains that she wakes up every morning compelled to have local Boulder businesses donate their high quality clothing and household goods for struggling families living on Pine Ridge. You would not believe the volume of products she gets! She is a force to be reckoned with and we are so grateful for her contributions to help communities in crisis!

Spreading The Warmth of a Holiday Meal

_x000D_ This month, we are distributing ingredients for a complete holiday meal (turkey, potatoes, gravy mix, stuffing, corn, green beans, & soup) to families in need on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota and the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Montana. Many don’t realize just how economically and geographically isolated these reservations are, how dire the situation is, or how this isolation creates major road blocks for families hoping to also gather around a warm and hearty holiday meal.
