Alabama Tornado Relief
April 29, 2011 - Earlier today, Conscious Alliance donated a truck loaded with food to Tuscaloosa, Alabama in response to the recent tornado destruction in the area. We partnered with our friends US Foodservice, who are wholesale food distributors in Montgomery, Alabama. We ordered a load of food to be promptly shipped to the West Alabama Food Bank outside of Tuscaloosa. The food will be distributed to individuals and families affected by these devastating storms.
On April 27th, 38 deadly tornadoes whipped through Alabama. The storms left a trail of destruction 1,025 miles long and claimed 236 lives, making it one of the worst natural disasters in the state’s history.
Not only did the tornadoes claim hundreds of lives, but the destruction of the state’s infrastructure is also astounding. Over 65,000 residents of Alabama filed insurance claims, and 46,000 applied for FEMA aid. This has made the price tag of restoration massive. The cost of cleanup for Tuscaloosa alone is estimated to be almost $100 million. Our thoughts are with Alabama residents in this difficult time as we try to help feed the individuals affected by the storms, whose houses and property have been decimated. We will continue to provide support as needed as the restoration process goes on.
