Conscious Alliance was recently a proud supporter of 'The Longest Walk' as it entered Pine Ridge Reservation on March 31st. The Longest Walk is a 5000+ mile walk across America from Portland, Oregon to Washington, DC. The Longest Walk was created to bring awareness to diabetes, and to demonstrate how this disease can be fought by changes in lifestyle and diet. Diabetes is extremely common on Native American Reservations as a result of poverty and little government support. Conscious Alliance donated food to the to make sure the 'Walkers' had a healthy meal upon arrival on Pine Ridge. The Longest Walk participants will be visiting various Native American Reservations throughout their journey across the country. In Pine Ridge, they held a number of presentations on diabetes education and screening, as well as presentations on active lifestyles.
